Swiftune Formula Junior customers had a stunning weekend at Monaco when they finished 1st, 2nd and 4th in the 2008 Monaco Historic race around the famous Principality. It was an all-Swiftune front row for the front-engined FJ race which celebrated the 50th anniversary of the single-seater series.
Professor John Monson in his Huffaker started from the outside of the front row but 'just' beat Tony Goodwin's Gemini into St Devote. "It was a bit squeezy into St Devote but that was really it," recalls John. After racing closely with Goodwin for five laps, oil and backmarkers became the chief headache for Monson. He calmly adds, "You spend most of your time sideways in these cars anyway."
At the chequered flag Monson won from Tony Goodwin with Sir John Chilsom, the third Swiftune-engined car, coming home in fourth place. And the engine? "Never missed a beat, I just put fuel in!" recounts the winner.
" This really was the blue riband event for front-engined FJs with a packed field of the best drivers from across Europe so to have a Swiftune engine under the bonnet of the winner is brilliant," said Nick Swift.
And the remarkable BMC A series engine avenged its defeat at the hands of the Fiat-engined Stanguelli in the 2006 Monaco race.
