When the flag dropped on Sunday Richard Postins' A40 kept the rapid A95 of John Young at bay until Madgewick corner. The A40 has been beating Rae Davis in his A35 all season but strange things happen at Goodwood and so Richard found himself third dicing with the unusual Volvo PV544. A good finish for the Swiftune-powered A40 was on the cards but overtaking backmarkers at Lavant saw Richard make a rare mistake and spin. Result fifth place.
For his co-driver Richard called up his godfather international racing driver David Hobbs who raced at Le Mans 20 times and was American F5000 champion! And what did Hobbs(69), whose last race at Goodwood was in a mighty Lola T70 sports car make of the A40? "He loved it and was full of ideas of how to improve it,"said Richard.
In Saturday's race, where the cars are driven by "professionals", Hobbs had a close dice with Bobby Rahal's Jaguar and finished seventh in a classy drive which proved that the top class aces never lose it! Overall the Swiftune-powered A40 finished sixth.
