An estatic Nick Swift punched the air for the whole of the slowing down lap after winning a brilliant all-historic pre-1966 race at the Goodwood Revival. Nine months of hard work and toil by the whole Swiftune team had a single goal...to win the 50th Anniversary race for Minis at the blue riband Revival event.
Nine months hard work by the Swiftune team is over!
"It has to be the one and only time we will get an all FIA Mini race, " explains Nick, " it will never happen again.
"To win in front of that huge crowd and such a prestigious event and to have Swiftune engines come home first, second and third is brilliant. For me it was one of my most important races.
"I made a rubbish start but I managed to get the lead back by Madgewick. Then Graham Churchill came past me and I realised I was in danger of slipping back into the pack so I got my head down.
Waiting is almost over for the ultimate historic Mini race
"Those last four laps I was listening for everything little noise and then on the last lap some oil at Woodcote caught me out and I had a wobble but then I saw the flag. It was the ultimate relief after all work that has gone into getting my car and all the customer cars to Goodwood."
The winning margin for Swift/Gavin was 15 seconds, leading Aaltonen/Stanley ahead of Churchill/Baldwin.
