Poor condenser reliability is increasingly causing racing engines to misfire, but not any more. Swiftune has developed an all-new competition condenser for all engines running with conventional ignition points.
“Lucas condensers used to be really reliable but in the last two years the quality has become a major issue and the result is lots of misfire problems, “explains Nick Swift.
Quality of the latest condensers is so inconsistent that Swiftune testing has highlighted that often competitors would be better off with an old unit.
Optimising the capacity of the condenser for the distributor points has resulted in a unit noticeably bigger than the previous Lucas item. This is why the Competition Condenser is mounted outside the distributor, a significant advantage because condensers don’t like heat!
The Competition Condenser kit includes a condenser, P clip and wires with heat shrunk connections for the coil and earth. Race Retro show marked the debut of the new Swiftune condenser kit where there was huge interest from competitors who have all suffered from condenser-induced misfire. Swift added: “Everyone was so relieved that at last there is a solution to the problem of poor quality condensers.”
