Competition Engines - Rally Minis
The rising popularity of historic rallying in the UK and the revival of famous pan-European classic rallies has given many enthusiasts the chance to get behind the wheel of a Mini Cooper S and relive the glory days of Hopkirk and Makinen.
Swiftune's 42 years of experience tuning the A series engine means it is perfectly placed to produce rally power trains which deliver great driveability and superb reliability.
Nick Swift explains: "A wide spread of power is essential for rallying Minis which makes the camshaft selection and the cylinder head selection critical."
By increasing the air speed in the inlet tract and port, throttle response and torque improves - exactly what is needed for the inherently unpredictable nature of rallying driving.
Swiftune's long experience means it can meet the many different demands of the historic rally community. For instance, in the UK Minis will run with either SU carburettors or Webers(1293cc), while the class limits in Irish Tarmac rallying means a full-on 1460cc engine is the power plant of choice!
Classic rally driver Tony Arnold had this to say about his new Swiftune engine fitted to his superbly prepared Cooper S: "The engine ran perfectly and never missed a beat, using one pint of oil in 2000 km. The power is very good as it pulls from 2200 rpm and will go to 7000 rpm if you are not careful. It will pull 100 mph very easy and feels just like a variable cam as the power takes off at 4200 rpm. This is the best Mini engine I have ever had in a rally car, God knows what the race engines must feel like!"
