Mini's shine at 82nd Goodwood Members Meeting

16.4.25

Always a highlight on the historic motorsport calendar, this year’s Goodwood Members’ Meeting featured a total of 14 Minis across two races, delivering thrilling bumper-to-bumper action and classic giant-killing battles.

First up was the Whitmore Cup for pre-1966 touring cars under 2 litres. The grid included nine Minis going head-to-head with the likes of Lotus Cortinas and Alfa Romeos. BTCC driver Adam Morgan started from the front row after qualifying 3rd overall and as the fastest Mini. He was followed closely by Nick Swift, with Nick Padmore and Mike Jordan qualifying 4th, 6th, and 9th respectively.

After a lightning start, Padmore, Morgan, and Swift found themselves three abreast, hunting down the 3rd-place Cortina. What followed was an incredible battle between the trio of Minis, until Padmore was unfortunately forced to retire due to mechanical issues. When the chequered flag fell, Swift narrowly missed out on a podium, finishing 4th overall and 1st Mini, closely followed by Morgan in 5th. Mike Jordan claimed 3rd Mini, with Michael Cullen, Aimee Watts, Chris Edmunds, and Ryck Turner rounding out the Mini finishers.

The Win Percy Trophy, a new addition to the Members’ Meeting schedule, featured Group 1 touring cars under 2.8 litres that competed between 1970 and 1982. This two-driver race brought together Mini 1275GTs, Ford Fiestas, and Triumph Dolomite Sprints, all battling for outright victory rather than being overshadowed by bigger machinery.

Nick Swift and Andrew Jordan, who qualified as the fastest Mini and 5th overall, were in podium contention throughout the race. However, a late safety car allowed an Escort to close the gap and snatch 3rd place from the Mini. Meanwhile, after an off-track excursion on the opening lap, Rupert Deeth made an impressive recovery through the field. He and his co-driver, Gordon Shedden, finished 5th overall and 2nd Mini. Ryck Turner crossed the line in 8th, Larry Warr in 10th, and Harvey Death just behind in 11th.
